About KAP
-
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative method of mental health treatment that combines ketamine with psychotherapy to address a variety of mental health conditions. When medically appropriate, ketamine can deepen the therapeutic process with psychotherapy.
Additionally, pairing ketamine with other integrative therapies (Art Therapy Somatic/Mindfulness Practices, Plant Medicine, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine) can create mutual enhancement and amplify as well as prolong the powerful effects of KAP.

Ketamine is classified as a dissociative anesthetic. It is identified as a World Health Organization essential medicine. First synthesized in 1962, it has been used since 1970 in a variety of medical settings as an anesthetic.
For the past 20 years ketamine has been used off label in sub-anesthetic doses to treat a variety of mental health conditions which include but are not limited to:
Treatment-resistant depression
Suicidal ideation
Chronic pain
Anxiety Disorders
Emotional and physical pain
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Alcohol/substance addiction
A variety of other mental health conditions

Ketamine has been used for many years safely as a schedule III non-narcotic anesthetic and in more recent years for off-label use in the treatment of mental health conditions. It’s safety is determined individually based off of your current medical history. Our in house physician, trained extensively in Ketamine therapy, will help you determine if it is indicated and a viable option for you.

Ketamine has various exciting and intriguing properties making it an exciting advancement in the mental health space. Ketamine has been shown to work effectively as an "acute" antidepressant in that it can reduce depressive symptoms and suicidality in as little as hours after the medicine is given. Ketamine also has been shown to increase the brain's ability to learn and change, altering rigid thinking and behavioral patterns. This re-learning of old skills and picking up new ones is also called Neuroplasticity.
By adding psychotherapy to a person's Ketamine treatment, it can maximize this window of opportunity of Neuroplasticity to create new behavioral patterns and thought processes.
What You Can Expect
KAP is a 4-step process:
-

Step 1 | Medical Intake
Meet with our doctor. The goal is to learn more about you, ensure that ketamine will be well tolerated medically, and to decide which mode of ketamine will be ideal for you. We will discuss informed consent as well.
-

Step 2 | Preparation Session
Meet with one of our therapists. The goal is to learn more about you and your experience with ketamine and other psychedelics, as well as to provide education and practice various mindfulness/somatic strategies. This might include meditation, breathwork, bodywork, and acupuncture. We will discuss the medicine day in greater detail to ensure you are well prepared for whatever may arise.
-

Step 3 | Medicine Day
Meet with the same therapist and physician you saw for the intake and preparation session. Both will be on site and available throughout your ketamine experience. The team will help administer the medicine and will then be present with you throughout the ketamine experience. We keep you safe and are here to guide you whenever needed.
-

Step 4 | Integration Session
Meet again with the same therapist who helped you on preparation and medicine day. The goal is to discuss any content, memories, and feelings that have come up since the medicine day and how to make more sense and meaning out of all of it. Other integrative therapies can also be utilized to facilitate the processing of these deep transpersonal and possibly psychedelic experiences.
